Old Smithy PW wrote to David Thompson to ask him to speak at the 22nd  February Public Meeting to explain his intentions for the site.

DM advised that David Thompson was to address Alb PC on Thursday 7th January re his plans and recommended civic society members to attend. (7pm)

ACTION: ALL

Village Green. BT had confirmed that they will not move the box. APC had turned down PW’s offer to pay for the replacement of a few lime trees where they are near to houses in the area of Holly House to Balance Shop. It was felt that if a further proposal was made in due course from a resident’s group and strongly supported by ADCS it may have more success. The roads also need to be re-surfaced but DM advised that APC only had £2.5k in their budget. This issue needs to be included in the Report to Councils to be prepared.

5. Topics for focus at this meeting:-

a. Village Entrance Scheme. Task Group: JB/HH/PW

The scheme to implemented over several years. First ones to be tackled were at D Austin, Wyevale and end of Station Rd.

The Tillhill quotation is for a complete supply and installation and its cost is therefore high and too high for ADCS to implement. However the quotation was helpful in providing an idea of costs of the various components - Tillhill to be thanked for their help so far. The work will have to be covered by a combination of:- requested  funds, donations of money or materials/labour by local businesses (particularly horticultural ones), work by society volunteers. RAF Cosford had asked for the Society to formally request their help and they would be able to do some site work.

PW proposed that the Society apply to LJC18 for £7.5k funds for this year and to be matched by the Society from donations etc

ACTION: PW

Task Group to follow up local companies to request sponsorship.

ACTION: JB/HH/PW

The name of any donor is to be displayed at the relevant entrance (similar to the sponsorships of roundabouts in Telford).

ADCS will seek volunteers to help with both planning/fund raising/site work – RS to put Notice in Parish Magazine

ACTION: RS

MS said that experience at Tong was that the usual PC’s  insurance would cover activity related to volunteers.

ACTION: PW to ask Alb PC if the volunteer work could be undertaken under the auspices of APC and that their insurance would cover it.

PW  to ask Darren Hancock, Manager of Wyevale, for some sacks of daffodil bulbs for use near the entrances at Wyevale and Station Rd.

b. Request to LJC18  for funding for Society activities.

ACTION: DH to prepare the application for £250 and submit it before 14 December.

c. Civic Society Awards Scheme for Schools. Task Group: PW/DH/JB

ACTION: PW to ask for advice from Brewood CS

It was suggested that the judges could be the spouses of ADCS committee members.

d. Next Public Meeting

It was agreed to hold the meeting on 15 February later changed to

Monday 22nd February 2010 at 7pm for 7.30pm in the Red House, Albrighton. Speakers to include Sarah Lowe, SC Conservation Officer and Andrea McWilliams, SC Regeneration Officer. Other topics to include contentious issues such as the Old Smithy (can a suitable speaker be found?) which will be of interest to residents.

ACTION: PJ room availability, PW speakers availability, RS Notice Parish Mag,

6 Any other business

a.      Station

PL suggested that ADCS request Sarah Lowe makes a new conservation area. The area to include the whole Station, ramp access road, the private land to the east of the ramp, the row of Dartmouth Cottages at the end of Shaw Lane and Station Cottages in Station Rd. It was agreed to support this proposal.

ACTION: ??

The station ramp and lack of parking at Albrighton station was discussed. As Cosford station was to have significant refurbishment and extra parking it was essential that Albrighton station had extra parking and hence extra passenger throughput to avoid its closure

DM said that APC have discussed the purchase or leasing of the land at the east of the ramp access road for use as extra station parking. ADCS strongly supported this proposal.

ACTION: DM &DB

b.      The Hollies, 18 Cross Rd – application for listing by English Heritage

PW had received a letter from EH which advised they would complete their report by Christmas but during a phone discussion suggested that only if the date was prior to 1840 would it be listed.

ACTION: PL and RS would pursue the matter.

Date of next meeting: 8th January 2010 at 2pm at 31/32 High Street

RS 3.01.10
