Minutes of the Committee Meeting of the

Albrighton & District Civic Society

held at APC Office, 82B High St, Albrighton,

on Monday 3rd May 2011 at 2pm

The Chairman had issued an invitation to Kim Ryley, Chief Executive of SC, to attend our meeting to discuss several issues mainly the street scene and planning. He delegated Chris Edwards and Steve Brown to attend and the committee welcomed them. The Notes of this Meeting are in a separate document.

 

1. Apologies received from John Bulmer, David Murray, and Michael Ward

 

2. Minutes of Meeting of 4th April 2010 were approved

 

3. Main Current Issues

 

a. Eyesores – dealt with in the meeting with Chris Edwards and Steve Brown

 

b) Entrance Scheme.

Alb Garden Centre has offered more bulbs.

LJC Grant: DH reported that the first tranche £1250 had been received on 27 April. DH tabled a proposed list of match funding and he would present this to Andrea McWilliams next week.

PW said a new Application for a Grant next year would be made in two stages and we need to apply before November 2011.

Queries about the delay by Austin Roses – ACTION: HH to discuss with JB and they will speak to Charles Young (his field at the corner).

ACTION: PW will ask Austin Roses if they would name a rose “Albrighton”

 

c) Schools Civic Awards Scheme.

The judges will be PW, HH, DH, JB.

Next year an ADCS representative will visit each school to discuss their involvement and to show examples of this year’s entries.

 

d) Albrighton Station.

i) DB reported that NR may install a real-time tracking post to provide up-to-date information about train arrivals.

ACTION DB will chase up Adam Checkley NR for the awaited meeting.

ii) Station Building. PW had obtained a quotation for work to repair the building.

ACTION PW to ask HLF for an example Business Plan and to seek help from Wolverhampton University.

 

4. Other items.

a)    Albrighton Fayre.

DH has booked a site near to that of last year.

Flyer/Membership Application being drafted by MP & RS. We are very grateful to Walking for Health Group who will deliver 2500 copies along with the Flower Show leaflet.

 

5. Any Other Business

a)    DB has met Peter Wilson who is organising new village signs.

b)    PL will represent ADCS at a meeting with SC – one item to be considered is the request by Alb Traders Association for signs showing that Albrighton Centre has Shops and Services.

ACTION: RS will write to PL to ask him to make the Cross Road Traffic Group’s case for a sign at the end of Cross Rd junction with A464 sending long distance through traffic bound for M54 down the A464 to the junction with A41 traffic lights and then turn left up the A41 to the M54.

c)    The visit to Brewood Civic Society is the evening of 29 June 2011. ACTION: DB to enquire if we may hire the Alb Flyer
